Banning Incandescent Lightbulbs

American Thinker has an interesting article about why banning incandescent light bulbs will:

  • Hurt poor people
  • Create a wealth transfer from the US to China
  • Cause more coal fired power plants to come on line, not fewer
  • Spread 50,000 lbs. of mercury around the country, making each and every location with a light bulb a potential toxic waste situation
  • Pollute the ground water
  • Cause electricity prices to rise
Gotta love the unintended consequences of government meddling.

TCS Daily also has an article on the subject, but focuses on whether or not legislation is needed to effect the phasing out of incandescents.

Both articles are worth the read.
